What bothers me a bit is hardcore twi-haters use this as a reason Twilight sucks.

Um.

I'm sorry, but since vampires are supposed to be dead (and that's about the only part of the myth that hasn't been changed) doesn't this automatically apply to all other vampires as well?

Well, that's what I think. But even if you use this as a blanket excuse why Twilight is bad, shouldn't you apply it to other fandoms as well?

A lot of vampires, canonically, cannot have sex. Thus neatly sidestepping the issue. I am an uncultured swine, so the only example I can come up with off the top of my head is Rice's vampires... Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, a lot of modern takes on vampire lore allow it. Hmm...

At any rate, it depends on whose vampires your talking about!

Do you find it's common for twi-haters to defend other vampire lore in their crusade against the passages of Meyers?

Actually I've noticed a lot of haters bring up other vampire 'lore' when hating on Meyer. But they tend to forget that Bram Stroker and others created this lore when they romanticised vampires in their writing.

The vampires of folklore were reanimated corpses. They weren't charming and definitely weren't beautiful. Both sides of the argument forget that.

THANK YOU! That excuse for peoples to hate it is one of the top stupid I keep hearing. I like it even though is not the best book ever and if your gonna get mad over any book,show,person,or thing ,then you need a way better reason then something you never complained about with before.

Seriously, Buffy boinked Angel the vampire more or less the moment after she wasn't jailbait anymore, but people still love Buffy/Angel, so...

If you don't like the writing, say you don't like the writing. Don't try to pick holes in something you didn't really notice before. Shall we say double standards?

Though I don't like Twilight, that had to one of the stupidest reasons for hating on it. After all, necrophilia is wrong because you're doing things with someone who can never give their consent. While some vampires (some, not all; depending on the myth and how you look at it, too) are technically "dead", they're still well-aware and able to consent.

However, I view "undead" not as dead. I don't think any vampires can really be called "dead". Most of them "died" and were "reborn".
